According to the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance’s new Online Authentication Barometer, biometrics is now the second-most adopted authentication technology behind only passwords. It shows that biometrics—such as using fingerprints and face scans—are being used by at least 35 percent of people and are by far the most popular form of online authentication behind passwords. The Barometer further highlights how the adoption of biometrics for online authentication varies widely internationally. All the countries included in the survey reported that at least 25 percent of their population uses biometrics in some capacity.

As a matter of fact, many public and private entities are now using biometrics to identify criminals, provide better control of access to physical facilities and financial accounts, and increase the efficiency of access to different public services and their utilization.

Even increased concerns about national security are pushing different government entities to link passports, visas, and border-crossing records to biometric data and strengthen their counter-terrorism measures. Interestingly, one of the few companies that are empowering governments, law enforcement agencies, banks, retailers, and other enterprises to solve their identity management challenges through biometrics is Aratek. Powered by an overriding passion for technological excellence, proven manufacturing strength, and a stern drive for customer satisfaction, Aratek is a global leader in multi-biometric and multi-factor authentication technologies.

“Enabling strong authentication experiences for consumers is really at the heart of what we do,” said Michael Shao, CEO of Aratek. To this extent, Aratek’s innovative products include fingerprint modules, fingerprint scanners, biometric mobile terminals, and intelligent facial recognition terminals. Other comprehensive suites of services are software, AFIS solutions, biometric algorithms, and engines.

These solutions and services are preferred by Aratek’s customers worldwide for providing real-world solutions to real-world problems.
Under the Hood of Aratek

One of the unique solutions by Aratek is TrustLink™, a high-performance biometric authentication platform that supports large-scale facial and fingerprint recognition. TrustLink™ includes multi-biometric identification technologies for efficient and convenient identity management. TrustLink™ is equipped with Aratek Bione® Dynamic Optimization Algorithm and TrustFace™ Face Recognition algorithm, which specializes in large-scale fingerprint and face recognition applications. TrustLink™ also supports public and private clouds enabling fast and convenient identification and verification for fingerprint and face.

Alongside this, Aratek also provides TrustFinger SDK, which is suitable for applications where fingerprint enrollment and verification are required. The biometric functions can be performed on PC or mobile terminals with Aratek fingerprint scanners and modules. TrustFinger SDK is entirely software-based, and no dongle is required, ensuring the best quality fingerprint stored in the database by using fingerprint image quality determination during enrollment.

But Aratek’s innovative offering just doesn’t end there. Aratek also offers biometric mobile systems developers and integrators (BMAPI SDK), designed for the multiple functions development in Aratek Mobile Terminals. It covers functions such as fingerprint enrollment, verification, and credential reading (RFID, 1D/2D barcodes), as well as device management. BMAPI provides sample codes to illustrate essential functions of fingerprint enrollment, verification, and credential reading.

Moving forward, Aratek is now gearing toward the launch of TruFace Manager, a fully featured physical security software that is ideal for access control and attendance tracking. TruFace Manager is windows-based software for quickly centralizing the management of all Aratek TruFace smart terminals, which are secure, versatile, and easy to manage. “TruFace is filling the strong demand for contactless digital identity brought on by the pandemic,” notes Samuel Wu, VP of International Business Division at Aratek. TruFace Manager is packed with essential features such as the thermal scanner, which can detect fever while simultaneously running face recognition to flag the presence of persons with fever as well as those not wearing masks. “The global health crisis has forced us to adopt life-saving protocols, and TruFace is an effective tool for both the government and private sector to enforce such measures wherever these solutions are deployed,” concludes Wu.
